Tracking bear dens with dogs and drones

Two men, one with a white beard cap and the other with a brown beard and hair stand and smile in front of a photoshopped background of icy mountains.

Dick Shideler and Nils Pedersen describe how Karelian bear dogs aid conservation by keeping bears safely away from people, as well as how their dogs can work alongside drones to detect polar and grizzly bear dens on the North Slope.

Recorded by Jessie Young-Robertson on November 17, 2023 in Fairbanks, Alaska. Edited by Kelsey Skonberg.

Music: “Arctic Evening” by Marcel du Preez
